Background

Illumagear started working with Luminaire after their previous electronics and firmware consultants left to pursue full time employment opportunities. Luminaire was able to provide circuit board design, firmware development and manufacturing support for the Sixth Sense, a personal protective device which alerts line workers of dangerous levels of current or voltage.

Project

Worked closely with the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design teams to integrate powerful electronics into a small form factor.
Created power budgets, designed power-optimized electronics and developed efficient firmware which is able to provide a long battery life in a small form factor. Communicated with Illumagear about how different feature requests would impact the battery life
Developed a custom Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) GATT and custom advertising to allow for communication between Sixth Sense devices and for app integration.
Developed a custom bluetooth based configuration website to allow Illumagear to directly configure prototypes before the full application was available.
Designed, prototyped and implemented embedded algorithms for novel sensing technologies.
Designed functional test jigs for the end products and worked with manufacturers to specify and integrate a custom PCBA test procedure.

Impact

The Sixth Sense is an important addition to Illumagear’s product lineup.
Luminaire has continued to support Illumagear as it runs into manufacturing related issues and for technical support.
